Connecticut offers individuals several hiking trail options. The trails provide diverse types of terrain, and hikers of all skill levels can find one they'll enjoy. The following are three trail highlights that hikers can experience in Connecticut.
- Farm River State Park Trail: An easy hike, the Farm River State Park Trail is an out-and-back hike lasting only one mile. Nestled in the 62-acre Farm River State Park in East Haven, the trail takes people through the Farm River marshlands, along rocky shores, and past many birds who call the park home. - Hedgehog Trail Overlooks: Located in West Simsbury, Hedgehog Trail Overlooks takes hikers through North Saddle Ridge Drive, past a waterfall, and along a ridge with views of the surrounding forests. The trail starts at the entrance to the Simsbury Land Trust and covers roughly 4.8 miles when done in its entirety. It is a loop trail ranging in difficulty from easy to moderate. - Steep Rock Loop: In Litchfield County, hikers will find the natural wonder Steep Rock Preserve in Washington. The 974-acre preserve has numerous trails, but the Steep Rock Loop is one of the easiest. Perfect for horseback riding and hiking, the easy Steep Rock Loop trail covers 3.7 miles of land and takes hikers past a holiday house and a railroad tunnel.
